Scholarly Article

In reading the scholarly article by Andreas T. Strohle, there are many observations about professional athletes.  To begin, the article is titled, "Sports Psychiatry: Mental Health Disorders and Mental Disorders in Athletes and Exercise Treatment of Mental Disorders."  That entire article gives information on the relationship between a professional athlete and mental health.  The APA format with the citations comes at the end.  The subheadings are part of separate paragraphs so the reader knows when one paragraph and topic is done, and when another one starts.  There are also various graphs (bar graphs, scatterplots) throughout the article to back up what the article is talking about.  Mental health will always be an ongoing issue.  New problems will come up, but at the same time, innovation will hopefully help mitigate these issues.  "...we now know that even during maximum exercise only 60% of the active muscle mass is recruited."  This is reassuring because the brain is not using all the muscle mass to ensure exercise, but at the same time, that means the other 40% could be affecting that person's mental well-being.

Mental Health Associations

When observing various organizations designed to help professional athletes (and athletes in general) avoid or deal with their mental health issues, I noticed all the organizations seemed to think mental health was a bad thing.  I clicked on the website of an organization called AthletesForHope.org and was amazed at what I found.  Approximately 46.6 million people in the U.S. deal with a mental issue.  Actually, a lot of famous celebrities deal with mental issues. Will Smith, Howie Mandel, Antonio Brown, Mike Tyson, Michael Phelps, Kevin Love, Donald Trump, etc.  So, AthletesForHope is really spreading awareness about this issue in the discourse community.  This is in APA format.

Contracts

To conclude, when looking at contracts for professional athletes, the contract is lined up like a list.  The contract gives numerous details about what the athlete is signing up for.  There is a header at the top of each important thing on the list.  The headers are also numbered for significance.  Number one being the most important and the last number being important but the least important. All of the contracts have various technicalities and terminology that only the athlete and his/her agent would understand.  It would only make sense to that specific discourse community.  Under each header there are a bunch of rules and regulations, and steps to becoming the professional athlete.  The goal of this contract is to help new professional athletes get acclimated to their environment and discourse community.  This is ultimately the most common way to become a part of a specific discourse community.
