Genres

There are numerous different genres in professional sports.  For example, a playbook is a way in which professional athletes communicate with each other to achieve a specific goal: stopping/beating the opposition.  In a playbook, only the athletes are aware of the plays.  There may be a crowd/audience but unless the crowd knows the entire team's playbook (which no one does that is an outside observer because of privacy rules), they just watch and observe.  Journalists (like myself) do know some of the plays being executed (because that is our job) but they do not know everything.  Other things that are used are stat sheets that are filled out as a game is being played. These are all commonly used in a professional athlete's discourse community.
